Small Group Area

Here is a picture of my small group area.

Key Components to my Small Group Area (shown in picture above)
 Organization Elements
1.  Literacy Workstation Rotation Chart
2.  Chair Pockets (home for white boards)
3.  Canvas Bags on wall (home for teacher's supplies)
Teaching Elements
1.  Pocket Chart with Phonics Cards
2.  Phonics Flip Chart
3.  Sound Boxes with clip (mounted on bulletin board)
4. Vowels Poster
Behavior Management Elements
1.  Lamp
**How does this work?  When I am sitting with a reading group, I turn on the light.  This means the rest of the students (in centers) are not allowed to interrupt the small group lesson by asking me a question.
2.  Stars Graph
**How does this work?  When the whole class is doing an awesome job in centers they can earn stars.  They have 1 hour (that is how long center/small group time is) to earn 20 stars.  When they earn 20 stars, they have earned a prize.  (Possible prizes: free-time, treasure chest, whole class bingo games)

  1. I LOVE YOUR STARS GRAPH!!! I have been having trouble with my kinders during their centers and I think this will help motivate them to stay on task when I'm doing my small groups! Thank you so much for sharing!

  2. I really like the stars graph! I wish I could do it with my class but this year I have about half of my kiddos who really struggle to work with the classroom as a whole! I ended up doing points for each group and then at the end of the week, the winners are awarded. They've just really struggled doing something all together. I would love to try it next year though.
    thanks for sharing

  3. Thanks, I just whipped-up something I already had in the classroom. I actually started this in December because my kiddos were starting to forget how to act in centers. I always change-up behavior incentives to keep them interested. It is never too late to start something new!

  4. I love the lamp idea. I bought a lamp a while ago and wasn't sure if I wanted to put it in my room. Now it will have multiple purposes.
